TRIVIA PANELS
This video has been renamed a couple of times.
It's a video that I'd like to complete with a lot of miniature effects as well as 3d animation. I figure the cost of doing said effects could easily total $450 or so, but I'll try to figure out some ways to get it done for significantly less than that.
Sometimes I need to compromise and sacrifice the way I'd like to do things in favor of facing reality and just getting the thing done.
After all, this video is largely about the silly dialogue, not the disaster sequences... I focus too much on the postproduction, I think.
My concern is that under time pressure - I had to rush through most of the production in a single day. This is typical; my cast members are, on most projects, unpaid or paid in food, and it is difficult to get a good performance when you're jumping rapidly from take to take - especially given that these are amateur actors. I cringe at a lot of the takes I ended up keeping in the edits of my videos... there are some poor dialogue elements here.
Maybe that's why I do so much effects work, actually.
The sad reality is that both production and postproduction on all my videos are embarrassingly low-budget.
That means both the acting and the action are usually pretty bad.
Good news: I've got a viable trailer for this video now. So you can (kind of) see what I'm doing with this project.
NEWS: As you can see, I've changed how I plan to do three key sequences.
That is, the 'exploding mural' scene, the 'hall tsunami' scene, and the climactic church collapse, will all use different VFX tactics than those originally planned.
Simply put... large-scale miniatures are cost-prohibitive. It makes a lot more sense to blend smaller-scale miniature components, compositable stock elements, and CGI in a way that looks real.
I'm cutting out about $200 in miniature effects, from the project. This leaves about $240.00 as the current expected remaining cost of the project. Apologies to any of you who prefer miniatures over CGI, but this is a more practical way to go about things.
